Joshua Tree
Going on road trips always takes a lot of planning and sometimes a lot of money. For my holiday hiatus from work we wanted to go somewhere and didn't want to break the bank, so we chose something in California. We ended up choosing Joshua Tree. We booked a motel for one night and borrowed our friends hybrid car to save on gas.
Prior to leaving we scouted different locations we wanted to check out. We finalized our list with, The Integraton, Giant Rock, Arch Rock, Pappy and Harriets and The Institute of Mentalphysics. All of these places were great photo ops and had really cool history. We hit up all but the Arch Rock park in one day. It tired us out but it all paid off once we saw our footage.
Pappy and Harriets was amazing, the small saloon like bar has live bands and good food. It gets really packed so reservations are highly encouraged. We of course didn't have any but persuaded the hostess to help us out.
Giant Rock is exactly that, a giant rock! it stands at 7 stories high and covers 5800 square feet. It's so big that sometime ago the rock split in half. It's history is set in the 1950's claiming a lot UFO sightings and alien activity. Now the bare-desert land is host to many guests that come for a peek. It's very unfortunate that there's a lot of tagging on these natural monuments, but it gives the place a certain vibe.
Arch Park is an area within the Joshua Tree National Park that has a lot of tremendous rock formations, the most famous one is a bridge like arch that formed from a few rocks. You can walk over it and see far into the National Park. Many people camp around them and hike the area. There's some steep points that become difficult but once you arrive at the arch rock it is all worth it.
The Institute of Mentalphysics was strange to say the least. It is believed to hold many magnetic vortexes that help align "chakras" and other things. We went there because of Feli and went through a labyrinth that was supposed to clear your mind once you passed through it... it didn't, it just got me dizzy, but I'm also not a believer in many things!
Overall the trip was fun, and an exciting way to explore California. With time permitting I'd like to explore places around Los Angeles, and in a sense, Discover LA.
'till next time - JB
